Great for Islamic school or homeschool students and can even be adapted for public school students
Overview: During this unit, students will virtually visit several countries around the world to learn what its like to observe Ramadan there. Students are given a Ramadan Around the World passport and will place a stamp in the passport after each country has been visited to commemorate their visit. If you would like to include more dramatic play, give students a plane ticket and pretend that you are boarding a plane and traveling to the destination.
Sample Plan 1 - 1 week study
Visit one country per day, 5-6 per week. For variety, select one country from each of the continents (minus Antarctica)
Sample Plan 2 - Month study - 1 country per week
Choose just one country per week and do a more in depth study of the country itself.
Visit TJ's Geography pages over at the main site for a Country Fact Sheet and Country Current Events form.
Sample Plan 3 - Month study
You may find that your students will get bored before completing this version of the study, but you can study a different country just about every day for the whole month of Ramadan (TJ Ramadan has links to 19 unique countries)
Sample outline for each country
Whatever your plan of study, here is a sample unit outline of activities you can use with each country:
1. Read background information about the country and complete a scrapbook page.
You can download a free copy of the CIA World Fact Book to get information about the countries, or visit Kids.yahoo.com Countries
or visit TJ Ramadan's Ramadan Around the World Resource Pages--see links below (after #6)

Country Scrapbook for younger students
2. Read about Ramadan in that country -- See TJ's Index of Ramadan Around the World Countries
3. Do an activity based upon the reading (crossword puzzle, word search, comprehension worksheet, compare/contrast essay or chart). Look for comprehension worksheets for TJ Ramadan in the Ramadan Around the World Resource pages.
- Comprehension sheets for after reading
- Evaluation sheet to evaluate the stories read for effective writing
4. Make a recipe or craft from that country.
5. Put a passport stamp stamp in passport

Tips: Stamps are large. You can view them at 33.3% (or desired resolution), using Camera/Snapshot tool in Adobe Reader, highlight each stamp, copy it and paste it onto a page. Then, cut out and use in passport.
6. Color in the country on a world map.
End of Unit Projects
After you are finished with your complete study, have student analyze what he/she has learned by comparing the Ramadan traditions of different countries and/or writing about Ramadan in his/her own country.
Other Suggestions:
Have student prepare a report/presentation (oral, written, PowerPoint) for one country. Student should include facts about the country (as for a country report) as well as discuss/show Ramadan customs in that country. Student can include the country flag and map in presentation, a Ramadan recipe from that country, pictures of people celebrating Ramadan in the selected country, etc. Make a rubric/checklist of what student should include to help you evaluate student's work as well as to guide student while he/she is preparing the work.
